Personal Bio
Stteffany Duran
2018 Psychology Baccalaureate and Chancellor Medalist
UWT Psychology Club Treasurer
PSI CHI Honor Society Member
Research Assistant for Displacement, Detention, and Integration of Immigrants Research Team
As a first generation immigrant, schooling has always been a top priority for me. As a Mexican woman, I was always taught to give my maximum effort. I left the comfort of my friends in high school two years early and enrolled in full time Running Start at Highline College. After finishing my Associate of Science in Biology on track to become a pediatrician, I took a break as I was not fulfilled. I took an intro psychology course and found my new passion. After finishing my pre-requisites at college, I transferred to University of Washington Tacoma. UWT was my campus of choice due to its diverse student population, and small classes where you can truly connect with professors. I was inducted into Psi Chi as I continued to earn top grades in my classes. I was able to join Psych Club, and became treasurer on my final year. I also managed to attend the Western Psychological Conference which was a great learning opportunity, and exposed me to a number of interesting topics that will surely be the front of psych research soon. In my last quarter, I earned a coveted spot as a research assistant and will continue on that project even after graduation. This experience will be invaluable as I start my graduate career that will end with me earning my masters in psychology in order to become a clinical psychologist.
