My Leadership in Action
Displacement, Detention, and Integration of Immigrants Research Project
The objective is to better understand experiences and needs of our immigrant and refugee communities, particularly of those community members who arrived here without authorization but have since received some legal status. The hope is to learn pre-migration, migration, and resettlement experiences; supports provided by community-based organizations and other entities in Tacoma. What has been most helpful? What could be done to improve integration and resettlement experiences? Additional psychosocial challenges to resettling or integrating into the South Sound. My role as a research assistant so far has been to interview folks who are willing to share their story with us. As an immigrant myself I believe I bring a unique perspective onto the team, and hope to inspire those who I interview as I share my story with them too.

Chancellor's Medal 2018
Each year a student receiving an undergraduate degree is recognized by the Chancellor at the commencement ceremony for his or her extraordinary achievement as a student at UW Tacoma. The award recognizes an individual who has been a consistent source of inspiration for faculty and fellow students alike, and has overcome significant obstacles in order to complete a degree. It is with unbelievable honor that I was awarded this medal. I strive to inspire those around me constantly and it is humbling to be acknowledged in this manner. When my professor informed me she wanted to nominate me, I never envisioned I'd win. I thought there would be someone more deserving, but to my surprise I was chosen. I hope to not only inspire young members of my
family, but anyone who needs to someone like me achieving
her dreams.
